Samba dancers and Brazilian music managed to keep most of the rain at bay on Saturday as thousands attended the annual Primrose Hill Fair.

Themed to match the upcoming football World Cup, the fair in Chalcot Square was opened by Camden’s new mayor-elect Cllr Lazzaro Pietragnoli and organised in keeping with its “traditional village fair” feel.

Coconut shies, food stalls and Punch and Judy shows kept people of all ages entertained while samba dancers brought the colour and pageant to the square.

All money raised from the day’s activities went to the Primrose Hill Community Association (PHCA).

Mick Hudspeth, centre manager of the PHCA, said: “Despite the forecasts, the weather was great and a few thousand people turned up.

“We had a great Brazilian theme to tie in with the World Cup which went down really well.

“We’ve been hosting the fair in Chalcot Square for some 30 years now and have had great support from our volunteers and local businesses, so a big thank-you must go to them.”
