Archant

A nine-year-old boy will be the envy of Islington when he walks out at Wembley with his beloved Arsenal on Saturday.

Lucas Lloyd was just a baby when the Gunners beat Manchester United on penalties to claim the FA Cup in 2005, and now he will lead the side onto the pitch as they look to end their nine-year trophy drought with victory against Hull City.

Lucky Lucas was randomly selected from more than 30,000 young Gunners to be mascot for the final when he was approached by Arsenal and England ace Theo Walcott, who presented him with an Arsenal strip and FA Cup Final tickets in front of the Emirates Stadium crowd.

The St Gildas school pupil will attend the final with his mother Steph while his Tottenham-fan father Calvin stays at home with Lucas’s 12-year-old brother Theo.

‘Amazed’

Lucas, who lives with his family in Corbyn Street, Finsbury Park, said: “I was shocked and amazed when I found out, but I was also really excited.

“Theo Walcott didn’t say much at first, but then when we got to the pitch he said congratulations and he would see me at the final.

“My dad was excited as well, even though he is a Tottenham fan, and my brother Theo said he thinks I’m the luckiest boy in the world.

Lucas, whose favourite player is £42million summer signing Mesut Ozil, is predicting a 3-0 win for the Gunners, with goals from Olivier Giroud, Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey.

Despite being a fan of Arsenal’s biggest rivals, his dad will also be cheering on the his son’s team on Saturday.

“I always hope they win because the boys are really upset when they don’t. Lucas, and certainly his brother, do have a go at me whenever Tottenham lose,” he said.

“It was impossible to stop them becoming Arsenal fans, growing up so close to the ground, and I wouldn’t have wanted to try and stop them, as they might have had a tough time as Spurs fans going to school round here.

“I was dead chuffed when we found out Lucas had won. It was brilliant, it was like he’d won a golden ticket to Willy Wonka’s chocolate
factory.”

On Saturday, Lucas will also get to visit the Arsenal changing room before walking out on the Wembley turf.
