A surgeon who makes movies in his spare time has used a popular Highgate cafe as the setting for his next feature film.

Camera crews milled around Kalendar café, in Swain’s Lane, for three days this week to shoot scenes for upcoming independent film Love On Line, about a woman who tries to find a long-term partner by internet dating.

Writer and producer Steven Cutts said he travelled from Norwich to shoot his “micro-budget movie” in Highgate and Hampstead because of the area’s scenic charms. Love On Line is the doctor’s second feature film, which he hopes will be screened at prestigious Cannes International Film Festival in France and gain a cinematic release.

A scene from his first movie, Adieu Marx, was filmed at Karl Marx’s grave in Highgate Cemetery.

Mr Cutts, who is also a published author, said: “Aesthetically, it’s a really nice area. The woman dates about 10 guys in about 90 minutes, and the one she meets in Highgate is an older Irish guy called Felix, who is more reflective and cerebral because he lives in Hampstead, and everyone is brainy there.”
