A training pool which has amassed a catalogue of complaints since it opened seven years ago has been closed for six days due to a mechanical fault with the moveable floor.

The problem pool has been shut for repairs for 156 days since it was opened in the multi-million pound Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre in Adelaide Road, Swiss Cottage.

In 2009 the training pool was closed for eight weeks because of broken tiles.

The council says the pool will reopen tomorrow (Thursday, January 10).

Closures over the years have affected teams who practice in the pool and have made it difficult for people who regularly use the facilities to exercise.

A notice on the leisure centre’s website on Friday (January 4) listed all the classes that were cancelled due to the six day closure.

Camden Council say the moveable floor was built and installed by Euro Pools PLC.

The council added that the leisure centre has paid for the repairs over the years.

Camden said it is investigating every avenue possible to deal with the problems that have plagued swimmers since the facility was built.

A spokesman for the council said: “The teaching pool has been temporarily closed to the public due to a technical problem with the pool’s movable floor.

“We are working with the manufacturer and our operator, Better, to restore use of the pool with minimal disruption to customers.

“While the pool is closed, we are making alternative arrangements for swimming.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and aim to reopen the pool as soon as possible.”
