Journalist and broadcaster Esther Rantzen addressed a gathering to celebrate the work of a charity that helps older people to stay in touch with family, friends and the outside world.
Ms Rantzen spoke about issues of loneliness and isolation at the event at Cumberland Lawn Tennis Club, in Alvanley Gardens, West Hampstead, which was staged by the charity Keeping in Touch (KIT) to thank its hard-working volunteers.
KIT has more than 100 volunteers, working in 11 care homes across London, who were treated to a night of mulled wine and mince pies in recognition of their selfless efforts.
Hampstead resident Ms Rantzen recently launched The Silver Line, a free and confidential helpline for older people.
