A deaf schoolgirl has won a competition to design a 20mph road sign for Camden’s borough-wide speed limit.

The winning poster by 10-year-old Mya Lawrence, a pupil at Frank Barnes School for Deaf Children in King’s Cross, shows a lion roaring and the words “slow down”.

Her design, picked from more than 550 entries, will be displayed on lampposts around the borough.

Mya also won £300 worth of cycling shop vouchers.

The borough-wide 20mph speed limit was brought in by Camden Council in early December last year.

Labour Cllr Phil Jones, cabinet member for sustainability, transport and planning, said: “We were delighted with the number of entries received.

“We had more than 550 in total, capturing what a 20mph speed limit means to them.”

Karen Simpson, headteacher of Frank Barnes School, said: “I am so thrilled that a pupil from Frank Barnes School was selected to be the winner of the 20mph poster competition.”
