ChildLine founder Esther Rantzen was the guest of honour at the official opening of a new playhouse at her old Belsize Park school.

The 73-year-old TV presenter and philanthropist, who lives in Hampstead, cut a ribbon at a ceremony to open the new two-storey Wendy house at Sarum Hall School in Eton Avenue today.

Ms Rantzen shared her experiences of being at the school for girls aged between three and 11. She told students she was glad it had changed so much since she was a pupil as she did not like it very much at the time.

Headteacher Christine Smith said: “It was so lovely that she was able to come and open the playhouse. She connected so well with the girls.”
