Jugs of Pimm’s garnished with cucumbers and flowers grown in beds across Belsize Park and Swiss Cottage were on offer at an eco-friendly picnic to celebrate home-grown food.
While not all the picnic treats were wholly home-grown, the morsels available to hungry green activists were all home-made and garnished with rocket and sturgeon flowers grown in rose-lined gardening plots across Belsize Park, which are managed by eco community group Transition Belsize.
A handful of residents joined the Swiss Cottage picnic, held in Swiss Cottage Open Space on Saturday (August 31), to promote awareness of the little known growing plot in the green space between Hampstead Theatre and Swiss Cottage Library.
One of the coordinators for Transition Belsize, Carla Ranicki, said: “The picnic was a great celebration of all the food grown in sites that Transition Belsize runs.”
