The annual festival on June 14 will once again hold a country fair in front of St Michael’s Church, in South Grove, with jam-makers, bakers, and horticulturists showing off their produce.

The popular sheep show is back for a second year and will feature a live sheep-shearing demonstration before the animals dance to music.

Families will also have the chance to blitz their own smoothies, using pedal power as they ride a static bicycle to whizz up delicious drinks in a new “smoothie bike” attraction.

The Pulp Friction smoothie bar is run by young adults with learning disabilities and all proceeds go back into the social enterprise.

It is the brainchild of Jill Carter, who said: “My daughter Jessie has severe learning difficulties and when she was 17 or 18, she said she wanted to work in a posh restaurant like Pizza Express.

“The reality was that she would have needed a lot of support to work in that environment. But then we happened to be at a festival with one of these smoothie bikes and I said to her, I think you could do that.

“She took it into school, one of the dads said he was having a party, and it just went from there.”

The smoothie bar, which has been running as a social
enterprise since 2011, will sell a
variety of smoothies which punters can whip up themselves.

As the fair falls on the day of England’s first World Cup match against Italy, football fans will be able to try their luck in a penalty shoot-out.

Organisers have called on the village to enter its variety of country fair competitions, with several awards up for grabs.

The Great Highgate Bake Off, a take on the hit BBC baking talent show, returns to the festival this year with a new category for best showstopper cake – the same test that the BBC show’s three finalists had to face in last year’s series.

Children who have left buying their Father’s Day present until the last minute need not worry as the country fair will be selling contestants’ home-made cakes, jams, crafts and hand-grown potted plants and summer flowers to give as presents the following day.

Traditional Morris dancers will also perform in the forecourt in the front of St Michael’s Church while families can also tour the church’s tower for spectacular views over the City.
