Three thugs who lured a man out of a takeaway restaurant and stabbed him to death in a mistaken revenge attack are facing life sentences.

Dean Winston, 20, Kyle Sober-Froud, 19, and Calvin Jerelle Collins, 19, were caught on CCTV punching, kicking and knifing 20-year-old Mohamed Abdullahi.

They wrongly believed he was behind a shooting at the windows of Winston’s family home in Kentish Town two hours earlier.

Mr Adullahi, who lived in Montpelier Grove, Kentish Town, was left lying on the pavement outside Aspendos Bar and Grill in York Way, bleeding to death from a fatal wound to the heart and two deep cuts to his buttocks.

Sober-Froud pleaded guilty to murder on the second day of the trial at the Old Bailey while Winston and Collins were both convicted of murder today.

Mr Abdullahi’s father wept in court as the jury announced its 10-to-two majority verdicts after 13 hours and 47 minutes of deliberations.

Judge Richard Hone will sentence the three killers on a date to be fixed next week.

The court heard there was no evidence Mr Abdullahi was involved in the earlier shooting at Winston’s family home in Kentish Town.

Prosecutor Tim Cray said: “It seems that they believed he was and he was therefore targeted as part of a reprisal or street revenge.

“We say they were determined to take revenge for the shooting. Somebody needed to pay and this was a message to anyone involved with the shooting.

“Unfortunately Mohamed Abdullahi was the one who got in the way.”

The killers gathered within minutes of the shooting at Torriano Cottages, Kentish Town, at around midnight on June 29 last year.

Just before midnight they got into a taxi and spent the next 45 minutes driving around the area before carrying out the attack.

Mr Abdullahi was in the takeaway at the top of York Way, near the junction with Camden Road, with two members of his family when the three men arrived just before 1am.

“One of them called out to Mohamed Abdullahi and all three set on him the moment he stepped outside, pulling him away so his friends could not come to his aid,” said Mr Cray.

“They then carried out their joint and fatal attack on him while he was defenceless on the ground. They then ran away.”

At the time of the murder Winston was heard shouting: “Letting off shots at my mum’s yard – anyone involved in that will be dead.”

The killers fled the scene in the same taxi they arrived in and at 4am hid out at a hostel in Bloomsbury Street, Bloomsbury, where Sober-Froud and Collins were living.

Winston, of Torriano Avenue, Kentish Town, and Sober-Froud were arrested the next day in Palmers Green while Collins was arrested at his mother’s home in Colchester on July 2.

Det Insp Jamie Stevenson, the investigating officer, said: “Mohamed’s murder has devastated his family who are struggling to cope with his death.

“They have always insisted that they want only justice and not revenge for the people responsible for his murder.

“Today’s convictions have given them this justice and the lengthy sentences will hopefully serve as a deterrent to those who routinely carry knives in public.”

A fourth man was arrested and charged on September 17 with assisting an offender in relation to the murder.

Kryiacos Phantis, 55, of Carleton Road, Holloway, failed to turn up for the trial at the Old Bailey.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
