Staff have been left traumatised after the Tesco store in Heath Street was the victim of a suspected armed robbery this morning.

Officers were called around 6:45am after a member of staff reported being threatened by a man with a gun demanding cash.

The suspect - a white male, six feet tall and wearing a green hoody - fled the scene in the direction of Hampstead station.

A female member of staff in her 40s has been left traumatised after she had what is thought to have been a gun put to her head.

Managers at the store - which is closed while the police continue their investigation - say they believe they are missing around £1,400.

No customers were in the store at the time but three members of staff were on duty.

No one was physically injured.

Flying Squad officers are investigating the incident and urge anyone with information to call 0208 785 8655.

It comes just weeks after a cash in transit robbery that took place in broad daylight outside Barclays in Hampstead High Street.
