The sentencing of a supporter of hate preacher Anjem Choudary who groomed a 15-year-old girl on Facebook was delayed by a power cut today.

Mansoor Miah, 22, of Hilgrove Road, South Hampstead, invited the schoolgirl to meet him for sex at a hotel in Folkestone, Kent, after chatting to her on the social media website in November 2013.

The Tesco worker, who has ‘limited sexual experience’ also swapped lewd photos with the youngster and pleasured himself in front of the teen via webcam.

Southwark Crown Court heard the child’s mother was alerted after her daughter’s school reported online contact between the pupil and Miah.

He had retweeted several messages from Anjem Choudary including one just three days before his arrest on June 25 last year, which begins: ‘Which Muslim wouldn’t want to live in the Khilafah, ie Islamic ruling system...’

Miah, who previously admitted attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming, spoke only to confirm his name during the brief hearing today.

Judge Alistair McCreath adjourned sentence until March 16 to allow Probation Services to prepare a report.

‘Unhappily the appointment for the report had to be cancelled because of a power cut,’ he said.

At a previous hearing Neville Rudston, defending Miah, said his client had seized the opportunity to pursue a sexual relationship with the 15-year-old girl.

He added his client had ‘limited sexual experience’ and had not sought to deliberately target children.

Miah denied five charges of intentionally encouraging an offence and a further charge of attempting to arrange the commission of a child sex offence and no trial is sought on those charges.

He was released on bail ahead of sentence on March 16.
