Two men have been arrested after police found a loaded revolver and a semi-automatic pistol after stopping a taxi in Camden Town.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police’s Trident Gang Crime Command stopped two vehicles in Camden Road at 12.45am yesterday morning acting on intelligence that a man had a firearm.

Police say a 28-year-old male passenger in the rear seat of a yellow Toyota Prius taxi was searched and found to be carrying a canvas bag concealed under his coat.

The bag allegedly contained a loaded silver revolver with two rounds of ammunition in the chambers and an unloaded black semi-automatic, self-loading pistol containing an unloaded magazine clip.

The man, along with the 30-year-old driver of another vehicle, a Volkswagen Golf, was arrested and taken to a north London police station.

The 28-year-old has been charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and the other man was released on bail pending further investigation.

Tests on both weapons have shown them to be viable firearms.

Acting Det Insp Matt Husher, of the Trident Gang Crime Command, said: “It is always satisfying to remove firearms from the streets, and the fact that one was loaded and potentially ready for use in criminal activity shows the severity of what we were facing.

“The Met is committed to tackling gun crime and I would urge anyone who has information about a firearm to contact the police as soon as possible.

“Your information will be treated with the utmost discretion.”
