A man has been convicted of attempting to import cocaine into the UK in his body after being arrested at St Pancras station.

Amos Suedi, 43, of North Oval, Northampton, is due to be sentenced next month at Isleworth Crown Court after he admitted trying to bring the drug into the UK on a Eurostar train.

Border Force officers found 80 small packages of cocaine, estimated to weigh about 1kg, after he was stopped on a train from Brussels on Sunday, July 20.

Another man, William Sowersby, 46, of High View Road, Upper Norwood, is due to stand trial at the same court after he denied smuggling packages of heroin into St Pancras in June.

Last week, an inquest was held into the death of a 43-year-old “drug mule” who died on a Eurostar train that had just arrived at St Pancras, after a wrap of cocaine burst in his stomach.

A post mortem revealed that Nigerian Ifeanyi Onuegbu, a businessman based in Amsterdam, had swallowed 110 wraps, one of which had ruptured, St Pancras Coroner’s Court heard.

He died in March, four months before Suedi attempted to transport drugs inside his body on another Eurostar train.
