A nightclub has had the hours of its licence reduced and its Designated Premises Supervisor removed after a wake honouring a cancer victim descended into a mass brawl in which one man was stabbed and two police officers injured.
Described by officers as “one of the most serious incidents to have occurred in Camden Town in recent times”, police responding to a disturbance at Silk Nightclub in Pratt Street, Camden Town, say they were confronted by a crowd of around 100 “aggressive and intoxicated” individuals on the evening of April 4.
An argument said to be gang related descended into a brawl involving about 20 people and resulted in a man being stabbed in the stomach and police officers being elbowed and bitten.
Police say they were forced to call for back-up from all available units in Camden as well as draft in officers from neighbouring boroughs and a police helicopter. A man was arrested for attempted murder.
The management of the club has also received repeated warnings over previous disturbances at the club.
