Controversial Muswell Hill home given the go-ahead

A five-bedroomed “monstrosity” which garnered a string of objections from Muswell Hill residents looks set to be built after planners gave it the nod.
Haringey’s planning committee approved the designs for the Lanchester Road house at a meeting on Monday evening, despite the outcry from neighbours.
Residents of the road objected to the plans which mean the current detached, two-storey 1920s house will be demolished and replaced with a modern two-storey building made up of a series of box shapes that one neighbour branded a “monstrosity”.
Many felt the design was out-of-keeping with the road, which borders Highgate Wood, and questioned the sense of knocking the house down to replace it with one of similar size.
Despite these worries, the planning committee waved it through, adding two conditions: that, as with all new developments in Haringey, it has to meet a minimum ‘eco’ standard for sustainability, and that there is to be no construction work undertaken on Saturdays.
