Capital DJ helps Muswell Hill autism school step into media age

A Muswell Hill autism school has launched a radio station as part of a drive to encourage its pupils to lead independent lives.

The media hub – featuring a digital arts suite, shop and arts studio – was opened by Capital FM DJ Margherita Taylor at TreeHouse School in Woodside Avenue on November 22.

The school, run by the charity Ambitious About Autism, hopes the learning centre will provide a creative outlet for its pupils and help them learn new skills to take into employment.

Capital FM donated £98,000 from its Help A Capital Child appeal – the highest ever award from the fund.

Ambitious About Autism chief executive Jolanta Lasota said: “Activities that promote creativity and self-expression are vital for children with autism as they can have real difficulty communicating with others.

“The Capital Learning Stations will help TreeHouse School pupils to express themselves and develop the skills they need to live more independent lives when they graduate.”
