Legal officers at Camden Council have undergone training in an effort to stop them releasing sensitive information during court cases.

The council said it has “taken action” to prevent more cases of employees accidentally releasing the names of witnesses, with training sessions and a review of procedures.

The steps come after a problem neighbour was given the names of at least five people who had accused him of anti-social behaviour in February.

The council was seeking a possession order on his home and failed to remove the names from legal documents that were served to him.

It also emerged this week that three of the residents affected had only agreed to go on record after specifically asking to remain anonymous.

The matter has been referred to the Information Commissioner’s Office, which has the power to fine public bodies up to £500,000 for breaches of the data protection act.
