Cake lovers of all ages took part in events for Jewish Care’s Great Jewish Bake Day as the community aimed to raise cash to help older and isolated people.

More than 200 people were at a tea party at The Maurice & Vivienne Wohl Campus in Golders Green where residents and staff from three care homes contested the inaugural Ready, Steady, Ice baking competition last Wednesday.

The winner was Jeffrey Segal, a member at Jewish Care’s Michael Sobell Centre.

He said: “I couldn’t believe it. It was the first time I’ve iced a cake and it was fantastic to win. I really enjoyed the tea.”

Jack Mindel, 97, said that he is already looking forward to next year’s event.

“What a wonderful affair bringing as many people together as possible for a happy afternoon,” he said.

Other Bake Day events included a get-together for clients at West Hampstead’s Sidney Corob House for people with mental health needs, as well as a fundraising bake sale held by financial services staff at Nigel Sloam & Co.
