A man who suffered a heart attack and sunk to the bottom of Camden Lock canal was saved from near-death after a good samaritan managed to find his body with his feet.

The individual, who was in his twenties and said to be unable to swim, slipped into the canal last Friday just before 8am.

After being alerted by another bystander, a man giving the name of “Jonathan” jumped in after seeing bubbles on the top of the water.

With the murky water almost impossible to navigate, the man managed to feel around the canal with his feet until eventually coming across a body at the bottom.

The drowning man was rescued from the water.

Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service (LAS) rushed him to University College Hospital. As of Tuesday, he was still receiving treatment.

The heroics have led one attending police officer to recommend the individual for a police commendation.

A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 7:54am to reports of an incident at Camden Lock.

“We sent an advanced paramedic, an ambulance crew and a responder by car to the scene.

“We treated a man reported to be in his twenties for a cardiac arrest.

“He was taken as a priority to University College Hospital.”
