A musical icon was commemorated in Golders Green with the unveiling of a plaque.

The memorial for Vivian Shanshall, lead singer of the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, was unveiled at Golders Green Crematorium on Sunday by his widow, author Ki Longfellow-Stanshall who came over from the USA for the ceremony.

The band’s hits included 1968’s I’m The Urban Spaceman.

Others in attendance included actor Tony Slattery, musician Graham Preskett, actress Cherri Gilham and David Stark of SongLink.

Celebrated singer-songwriter, musician, author, poet and wit, Stanshall died at his Muswell Hill home in March 1995, just a few days short of his birthday.

The cost of the plaque was paid for by many of his fans and friends via online crowd-funding.
