An underground artist who became embroiled in a graffiti turf war with stencil artist Banksy in Camden has died having been in a coma since 2011.

King Robbo, whose graffiti work on a wall beside Regent’s Canal was defaced by Banksy in 2009 leading to a series of tit-for-tat overpaintings, passed away yesterday, according to his website.

He had been in an induced coma since April 2011 after suffering a head injury.

In September 2011, King Robbo’s graffiti crew Team Robbo defaced a Banksy mural of a child blowing bubbles on the corner of Jeffrey’s Street and Camden Road, in Camden Town.

A statement on the Team Robbo website yesterday read: “It’s with very great sadness that we have to announce that King Robbo passed away on 31 July 2014, due to health complications.

“Peace and respect to Robbo’s close family and friends.. the Crew of Team Robbo and WRH and all his many fans and supporters around the world…

“Team Robbo – “All the way” – Robbo changed the art world…forever!”
