An elderly man was taken to hospital yesterday after falling over while running for a bus.
The 80-year-old man tripped and knocked his head just before 12pm in West End Lane, West Hampstead, near the junction with Frognal Lane.
Police and an ambulance crew were called to the scene by the bus driver to reports of the man lying in the road.
London’s Air Ambulance landed in nearby Fortune Green Open Space but did not airlift the man to hospital after paramedics were able to treat the man for a non-life threatening head injury at the scene.
He was then taken to the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead by ambulance.
Liberal Democrat councillor for Fortune Green, Cllr Flick Rea, saw the air ambulance land in the park from her window.
She said: “It’s only the second time I have ever seen the air ambulance. Quite a small crowd gathered around it, because it’s quite an unusual event.”
