Highgate's acclaimed watercolour artists are once again showcasing their talents at their local arts centre.

The Highgate Watercolour Group was founded in 1980 as part of the Highgate Society to bring enthusiastic painters together in an informal, friendly atmosphere.

They meet regularly on Thursdays at 10A South Grove, but also enjoy excursions out to paint together locally or further afield. Ranging from experienced professional watercolourists, to newer converts to the artform, the painters' chosen subjects run the gamut from landscapes to buildings and local scenes, portraits, to still lifes.

A total of 20 artists will be showing work at the annual exhibition at Lauderdale House from October 11 until November 6 in the upper and lower galleries. The show will be officially opened by Councillor Lester Buxton, Mayor of Haringey on October 11 at the Private View at 7.30pm.Ham & High: A dead tree on Hampstead Heath by Vanessa WhinneyA dead tree on Hampstead Heath by Vanessa Whinney (Image: Vanessa Whinney)

Vanessa Whinney, a longstanding Highgate Watercolour Group member, who lives in Highgate, said "all are welcome" to the Private view where many of the works are on sale at a reasonable price.

"Members of the Watercolour Group have now committed to painting out and about every August, when our usual room is not available," she said.Ham & High: This view of the Japanese bridge in Regent's Park is by Cathy BurkinshawThis view of the Japanese bridge in Regent's Park is by Cathy Burkinshaw (Image: Cathy Burkinshaw)

"This year there were five August Thursdays and lots of sunshine. Everyone was very excited to venture beyond our usual boundaries, embracing Regent's Park, St Pancras Churchyard, Regent's Canal and Hampstead Ponds. We also couldn’t resist painting at one of our favourite local venues, Omved gardens, Highgate, on the first outing.

"It was a hugely successful enterprise and we look forward to sharing the results at our exhibition."
