Toresano Spanish Restaurant

Toresano arrived on the scene a few months ago, bringing tapas and all things Spanish to St John's Wood. It's smart, modern and classy, with guests treated to the personal touch and not surprising, considering owner Isi Cenizo's history includes working in Annabel's, managing Harry's Bar and launching the George Club in Mayfair. So he knows how to run a good ship for discerning customers.
All the tapas is available to take away but eating in is the thing to do (you can also reserve the back area for parties, seating 30). Get a few dishes to start: wonderful slices of Serrano ham: delightful bite-size pimientos del Padron (Pachon peppers fried in olive oil and sea salt - some hot, some cool, so watch out); croquestas de jamon Serrano (crispy croquettes of potato, cured ham and cheese); aubergines deep fried with honey and Muscat wine sauce which melt in the mouth with a sweet subtle edge and finally, juicy garlic prawns cooked in white wine, garlic and chillies. Mains include paella, fish, seafood and meat dishes for plenty choice, but do try the saddle of lamb, cooked for three hours in its own juices - rather special, it simply falls away from the knife.
We drank an excellent Spanish white wine, Ribeiro Castilla, not available in the shops and another reason to come visit. Desserts are tempting with a laden trolley including Catalan crème, Spanish rice pudding and a light, chocolate meringue cake - all made fresh in the kitchen care of very capable chef Antonio. This is really a very strong contender to add to your list of local restaurants for a quality night out.
