Silks 'n' Spice
AUTHENTIC décor in Silks and Spice creates an immediate impression of style and sophistication.
The venue has distinctly separate areas - the elegant restaurant upstairs and the knowingly cool events area downstairs, which is available for all kinds of corporate events.
On the evening of my visit it was being used as a karaoke bar, and a glimpse downstairs revealed subtle lighting and a very relaxed ambience, clearly being enjoyed to the limit by the party using it.
The restaurant stays true to its word in terms of the menu and offers a range of eastern delights.
For starters my friend and I enjoyed fresh chicken dumplings with a light soy sauce dip and zingy pickled ginger.
This was followed by a main course of the specially recommended jumbo prawns encased in a delightfully crispy noodle wrap and spicy wasabe sauce.
The prawns were juicy and good fun to devour.
This was accompanied by a dish of fragrant coconut rice and a plate of mixed vegetables including pak choi, mushrooms, carrots and broccoli.
Battered, deep-fried carrot segments added a hint of decadence to the meal.
From a broad wine list we opted for an excellent Merlot which hit the mark nicely.
For dessert I had the cheesecake while my friend had a huge, sugary waffle and ice cream - the perfect way to round off the occasion.
The service was noticeably brisk and we were never kept waiting for long between courses or at the end of the evening.
There was always a hint of fun during our meal, with the refrains of a lively karaoke session climbing up the stairs to the restaurant, hinting at the sort of post-meal high jinks that could be enjoyed if you wanted.

- Whole Atlantic lobster with either ginger and spring onions,black bean or chilli plum sauce £18.80
- Ikan Panggang – Char grilled salmon fillet with spicy tamarind sauce wrapped in a banana leaf £7.80
- Thai green chicken curry cooked with Thai aubergines, bamboo shoots, Thai chilli, fresh lime leaves and coconut milk £6.20
