WHO'S WHO: Georgina Worthington of High Tea of Highgate
Georgina Worthington recently opened High Tea of Highgate, serving traditional English tea and cake on the High Street in a move that has been warmly received by villagers.
How long have you lived in Highgate?
About four and a half years, but I have been coming to Hampstead Heath ever since I studied History of Art at Reading University. I discovered it through the artists and painters I studied.
Where else have you lived?
I am originally from Leicestershire. I moved to London after my art foundation and worked for Paul Smith. I was then living in Notting Hill and I was in Islington before my move to Highgate.
What is your favourite thing about Highgate?
I love its history and individual character. I am very interested in architecture. I love the mix of historical and contemporary architecture you find here. It is so exciting because of it. And people are very friendly here. It is a very friendly community.
What is the worst thing?
I can't really think of anything negative. I tend to concentrate on the positive aspect of things anyway. The problems in Highgate are part of its charm as well. If you take the difficult accessibility or being on top of a hill, it is also a good thing.
Which is your favourite local building?
I love the Highpoint flats. It is my dream place to live. The shop I have now is my favourite building here too. I love contemporary housing and, on the other hand, the housing in Pond Square is beautiful as well.
If you were Mayor for a day, what would you do?
I would give everyone tea and cakes. It makes everybody so happy. More seriously, transport would need some serious consideration, especially during rush hour. Commuting can be very unpleasant.
If you had to spend £1m in a day, what would you spend it on?
I'd love to throw one big tea party for schools and another one to say thank you to all my friends and the people who gave me support. And there are so many people and so many local charities who need the money, £1million would be easily spent.
What do you think is missing from Highgate?
I have a lot of old photos of trams in Highgate. There were trams here in the old days. It would be great to bring those trams back. An old-fashioned sweet shop would be great too.
What tips would you offer someone moving to Highgate?
They have to enjoy walking. Particularly up hills. I have persuaded so many friends to move here. The charm of the place speaks for itself, so you don't really need any tips, except to pop into my shop for a cup of tea, once they've moved here.
