Arsenal memories....2001
This year in....2001
Stuart Taylor, Arsenal's 19-year-old third choice 'keeper, made his Gunners bow against Manchester United - but it was the visitors' No1, Fabien Barthez, who attracted all the headlines.
The France international made two howlers - miskicking a clearance straight to compatriot Thierry Henry who scored and then spilling the ball to the same striker who gleefully shot home - as Arsenal won 3-1.
Henry said: 'It was difficult to say anything to Fabien. He made some amazing saves but then made the two mistakes that gave us the victory. I was happy to score but he is my good friend and I felt sad for him."
United boss Alex Ferguson chose to praise the victors - rather than hammer his own side. He said: "Arsenal were outstanding. Never mind individual errors, they outplayed us. They showed more desire - I'm not saying the title race is over but my players will have to work hard to get us back in the title race."
Arsene Wenger said: 'The players feel this is a pivotal moment. We came out like lions in the second half.
