Pete Doherty locked out of Chalk Farm venue
ANXIOUS bar staff locked rocker Pete Doherty out of his own gig after 200 fans tried to storm the venue, it emerged this week.
Earlier this year the Baby-shambles singer was due to play the closing set at the Monarch on Chalk Farm Road when the bar's supervisor ordered the doors of the packed pub to be locked, leaving scores of fans on the streets outside. But he did not realise that Doherty himself was among those denied admission.
A police report to a Camden Council licensing panel revealed the supervisor was nearly sacked for the gaff after the incident at Camden Rocks last June.
The report, sent to licensing chiefs in response to the Monarch's bid to open later at weekends said: "He advised police that his senior managers had threatened to sack him over the incident - not for the affray and police matters but rather they were incensed that on seeing the situation developing outside on the fateful night, he had instructed security to bar the doors for entry to any further customers, including Mr Doherty himself - who appears to have remained locked out on the path with the rabble. His managers were not happy men."
The Monarch was hoping to get the green light last night to remain open until 2.30am on weekends. Although police have withdrawn their objections several residents protested.
