West Hampstead school closes over swine flu scare

A WEST Hampstead school has been forced to close its doors after two pupils contracted swine flu.

Beckford Primary School on Dornfell Street has been advised by the Health Protection Agency to close until next Monday as a precautionary measure.

Any pupils that may be displaying suspected flu-like symptoms have been advised to stay at home and ring their GP for advice.

Siblings and others that have come into close contact with the pupils who have swine flu have been advised to continue with normal activities unless they begin to show flu symptoms.

There is no need for individuals to isolate themselves from the community unless they show symptoms.

Schools boss Cllr Andrew Mennear said: "We are working closely with the school and local health professionals to ensure we have the most up-to-date information and guidance on dealing with swine flu and will make sure parents, teachers and the wider community are kept informed at all times.

"We must all act responsibly at this time and I would encourage everyone to take appropriate measures to prevent the spread of the infection.

"The council has posted a very useful guide book on its website which gives excellent hygiene advice and information on what to do if you begin to display flu like symptoms.

"We understand that this is a troubling time but we will do all we can to keep local families fully informed."
