High speed train link will be "devastating" for Camden

GOVERNMENT plans unveiled today for a high speed rail link between Euston and Birmingham have been branded devastating by MP Frank Dobson.

Seven blocks of flats and one park are threatened with demolition to make way for the £30billion high speed link which would see trains travelling at up to 250mph.

Transport secretary Lord Andrew Adonis unveiled the plans in Parliament for the route which will also cut through the scenic Chiltern Hills.

MP Frank Dobson said: "It is wrong to knock down all these houses and concrete over a park.

"The engineers have looked at these blocks as if they were a greenfield site which they are not - people live here.

"It is unacceptable and it will be devastating for the area. The engineers need to go back to their computers and look at making better use of the space they already have at Euston, which at the moment is not efficiently used. What they have proposed is grotesque.
