Young musician ‘lost’ after heartless theft
Haroon Siddique
A VIRTUOSO teenage musician has been left devastated after her beloved accordion was taken by thieves.
Ksenija Sidorova, 18, has released three albums and played concerts throughout Europe. But her only source of income was cruelly taken away from her when the instrument was stolen from her hostel in Euston Street.
She said: "I have won a lot of competitions with this accordion, it means a lot to me. I feel like a baby was stolen. I would rather they stole a ring or something I could live without."
Ms Sidorova came to England two years ago from Lithuania to study at the Royal Academy of Music in Marylebone.
She has had to cancel two concerts scheduled for this week and forthcoming engagements in Italy and Germany.
A stocky white man wearing a black hat forced entry into the Euston Street hostel, which houses students studying at the academy, through a locked door at around 10.45pm on January 18.
The burglary was discovered the next morning.
The Excelsior piano accordion, worth thousands of pounds, was the only instrument stolen from the hostel practice room.
Ms Sidorova said: "People think it's just a folk instrument but it's a professional instrument. I came to this country to continue my career and now there is nothing I can do, I am in big trouble. I feel terrible, it cost me a lot of money and I have had it for six years - it's my life. "
Detective Sergeant Paul Stephens from Camden Police said: "The victim is a talented and successful musician who relies on the possession of her accordion to earn a living. The stolen accordion is very distinctive and there aren't many people who would know how to play such an instrument.
"Have you seen the stolen accordion or do you know someone who has? Has someone approached you in attempt to sell it to you? I am appealing for anyone with any information which may assist the investigation to come forward to police."
Anyone with information should call Camden Police on 020-8733 6913 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
