Parking fine costs man an arm and a leg
THE motorist who was given a parking ticket when he pulled over to replace his false limb has decided to flog off his leg to help pay the fine.
Peter Stapleton, who has had a plastic right leg for more than 30 years, stopped his car in Camden when it came out of its socket.
The disabled blue badge-holder said he received a £100 penalty even though a warden told him it was OK to stop.
He refused to pay the fine and was eventually left with a £465 bill which Camden Council this week cut to £100 after being contacted by the Ham&High.
But 50-year-old Mr Stapleton, from Dunstable, is angry at having to pay a single penny and has pledged to auction his leg on the internet to help raise the cash.
"I'm so annoyed the council is still demanding money," he said.
"In my opinion, I should never have been issued with a ticket in the first place.
"When I stopped the car, I explained to the traffic warden what had happened and he said it was fine to stop to replace my leg.
"I've now been told I've got 28 days to pay the £100. So I'm putting the leg on eBay to raise the money.
"I've got another replacement leg I can use, so I can sacrifice this one."
Camden Council would not comment.
