MORE than 5,000 people marched through north London this weekend to send a clear message to health chiefs - hands off the Whittington A&E.

Protesters of all political persuasions and walks of life took part in Saturday's march to save the Whittington A&E.

People gathered at Highbury Corner and at midday began the march towards the Whittington, where a huge rally took place in front of the doors of the A&E.

Proposals to close the hospital's A&E were first discovered in November, when a letter was sent to NHS staff detailing plans to reshuffle services.

A document containing seven possible options has now been drawn up by NHS North Central London - two of which would close the A&E completely, another two would close it for eight hours overnight.

For full coverage of the march, see this week's Ham&High.
