Day of reckoning comes for Druids
 | | |
MEMBERS of the Druid Order congregated and marched through Primrose Hill to mark the autumn equinox.
Dozens of druids in white robes surprised passers-by when they walked through the park for the annual celebration at 1pm on Friday last week.
The druids formed a ritual circle at the crest of the ancient hill and made a call for peace before welcoming Ceridwen the Earth Mother and making ritual offerings as part of their thanksgiving ceremony.
Druids believe the autumn equinox, when daylight is equal to night darkness, marks a reckoning point when people should reflect on the past year. A similar ceremony takes place in the spring to mark the beginning of summer.
The ceremony was organised by the Druid Order which traces its origins back many centuries to the guardians and teachers of druid mysteries in Wales.
Emma Restall Orr, joint chief of the British Order of the Druids, said: "We give ourselves time to stop and breathe deeply, to feel the satisfaction of what has been achieved, to start to relax.
